Genetic Engineering
In simple terms, we can define genetic engineering as a laboratory technique used by scientists to change the DNA (Deoxy ribo Nucleic Acid) of living organisms. This exciting branch of engineering or science allows the human minds to interfere in and modify the processes of life, birth death and even offers escape from some congenital diseases. There is huge potential in this field as the demand for genetic engineers is increasing both in India and abroad.
Genetic engineers/scientists re-arrange the sequence of DNA in gene using various artificial techniques. The procedure involves extracting the DNA out of one organism, changing it using chemicals or radiation and then putting it back into the same or a different organism. For e.g.: genes and segments of DNA from one species is taken and put into another species. This branch of science also involves the study of how traits and characteristics are transmitted through the generations, and how genetic disorders are caused. Their research includes researching the causes and discovering potential cures if any.

B.Tech in Industrial and Production Engineering
Industrial and Production engineering is the branch of engineering that involved the study of developing, improving, implementing and evaluating the integrated systems of people, money, knowledge, information, equipment, energy, material and as a whole the industrial process. Industrial Engineering can also be called as Operations management, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering or Manufacturing Systems Engineering depending on the viewpoint or motives of the individual.Production or industrial engineers’ tasks include planning, measuring and controlling the various activities within the organization, besides designing the production process for a product. The responsibilities of an industrial or production engineer include the overall industrial production and management. An industrial engineer is moreover involved with the human and organizational aspects of developing the desired system.

Q. Congratulations. Which institution are you opting for?
A. Computer Science branch at IIT-Mumbai because I’m interested in things like Logic and programming, and also because I’ll get a good recommendation for further studies from there. Another factor is that IIT-Mumbai Computer Science degree has a very good value in the market.
Q. So you plan to go for further studies after your engineering?
A. Yes, I plan to do my MS and PhD and get into research.

The IIT Madras student shares that he grew up idolizing former President APJ Kalam and eventually plans to get into research. In his spare time he plays the harmonica and reads Sir Arthur Canon Doyle, his favourite author.Q. How did you prepare for IIT-JEE? When did you start?
A. I began seriously preparing for the exam in Class 11, but I began attending classes at FIIT-JEE in Class 9 and 10. At that stage, I did not take it too seriously. I would attend the classes, which were conducted once or twice a week. But in Class 11 and 12, I joined SMART, a local coaching centre. I would attend classes two to three times in a week on weekdays. I would also attend a Sunday batch at FIIT-JEE.

In an exclusive interview, the 2010 IIT-JEE topper, Anumula Jithendar Reddy tells Shwetal Rai (of Rediff.com) what it takes to be an IIT topper.
How does it feel?
I am so happy. I have worked hard for the last two years. It feels very nice to see the result. I have to thank my parents and my institution, Narayana Junior College.
