B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering

Electronics and Communication Engineering
Electronics and Communication Engineering is one of the largest and most sophisticated branches of engineering. Its applications are so wide that it affects our daily lives in several ways. This field of engineering has provided to us the equipment like Television, Radio, computers and telephones etc. The technology of electronics and telecommunication helps us to see, hear and communicate over vast distances and do many things easily and conveniently. Electronics has an important role in improving productivity in industries like oil, energy, agriculture and so many other important sectors of the economy.

Electronics engineering professionals work in groups to design, fabricate, produce, test and supervise the manufacturing of complex products and systems i.e. electronic equipment and components for avarious industries including hospitals, com puter industries, electronic data processing systems for communication and in defense etc. They supervise production and manufacturing techniques/processes and oversee installation and maintenance works. Electronics engineers work with equipment which use extremely small amounts of power. Their tasks include works with microprocessors, fibre optics, and in the telecommunication, television, radio etc.

Electronics and communication engineering is a fast expanding sector where there is excellent employment opportunities for the skilled professionals. Individuals with zeal to learn and having imaginative and inventive mind will probably find electronics engineering a challenging and lucrative career.

Courses & Eligibility
An Electronics Engineering aspirant must start his/her academic career in Science at intermediate level (with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). After completing his class 12th or plus two in science stream he/she has to sit for entrance examinations that are conducted both at national and state level (e.g. IITJEE, AIEEE, BITSAT etc.). After qualifying the entrance examations he/she would take up BE/BTech courses in Electronics engineering which is of four years duration.

One can also go for Diploma courses after completion of his/her class 10th. A diploma professional is given the status of Junior Engineer.

Individuals, who still wants to study further after completing their BE/BTech, can pursue MTech program offered by Indian Institutes of Technology and several other engineering colleges/universities across the country.

Individuals who have interests in research field can pursue PhD after his/her post graduation studies for carrying out research works.

The Institution of Engineers (India) also offer courses in mechanical engineering that are equivalent to BE/BTech offered by other institutes/universities.

Career Prospects
Electronics and Telecommunication engineering professionals are most sought after by companies from various industries. Fresh graduates of electronics and telecommunication engineering may find immense good job opportunities in electronics and telecommunication sectors.

An electronics engineer in India can find a job in Central Government, State Governments and their sponsored corporations in public enterprises like All India Radio, Indian Telephone Industries, MTNL, National Physical Laboratories, Civil Aviation Department; Post and Telegraph Department, Co-ordination Department, Bharat Electronics Limited and few other government undertakings.

The private companies also offer excellent pay-packages to skilled and experienced electronics professionals. The private units involve with the manufacturing, sales and services of electronics consumer goods require large number of electronics professionals for their functioning.

Apart from making professional career, one can also do research activities in this field by joining PhD programs offered by several institutions across the world. Academic field is also rewarding. An individual can join engineering colleges/universities as a full time or part time lecturer/professor.
